Late
19th Century British Military Dispatch Box
|
"Somewhere
in the vaults of the bank of Cox and Co., at Charing
Cross, there is a travel-worn and battered tin dispatch-box
with my name, John H. Watson, M.D., Late Indian
Army, painted upon the lid. It is crammed with papers,
nearly all of which are records of cases to illustrate
the curious problems which Mr. Sherlock Holmes had
at various times to examine." (THOR) |
Unfortunately,
Cox & Co. was destroyed in the World War II bombings
of London by Germany; and the archives of Dr. Watson
are assumed to have been lost forever.
Following
is a list of the known topics of Watson's Unpublished
Writings & Holmes' Unpublished Cases (of which,
there were thousands):
The references
to the following cases all occur in Dr. Watson's writings;
but he was not present for all of them as some occurred
before his association with Mr. Holmes. Therefore, they
have been grouped chronologically (but not ordered
within the group), where indicated. In many instances,
details regarding these cases are not forthcoming, so
educated guesses have been made (with regards to where
other scholars have placed published cases in chronological
timelines and how unpublished cases chronologically
relate to published cases).

was the reason Holmes gave for not being able to go

in Holmes' place).
